The Practice
- Set a timer – 15-20 minutes is a good starting place.
- Do one of the activities listed below
- Do the “Returning After Immersion” practice below
Returning After Immersion
When you’re done, step your way back by:
- Taking and releasing a big breath
- Think about something you enjoyed from the experience
- Recognize that you have put aside some anxieties for a few minutes
- Decide which ones you’re going to pick back up…and know it’s OK to not pick up all your worries immediately
- Think about the one thing you are going to do next – even if it’s sleeping! Re-enter your day remembering that you had a few minutes of respite.
Activities to Choose From
- Lower energy: Play a few rounds of Monument Valley which is a very serene puzzle-type game with no timer, no fighting, minimalist art and sound, and the satisfaction of solving simple puzzles to move through a landscape of M. C. Escher-like staircases. Available for iPhone and Android.
- Higher energy: Lena Mendez’s 20-minute Follow-Along Nia routine . It’s in German, but you can easily follow her motions! Requires a moderate level of fitness, though you can easily sit out segments if they are too vigorous.
There are many more options in the “Alternatives” section this week! If these don’t float your boat, be sure to take a look.
